Membership Categories
Base Member
BWA Base Membership are individuals who are suffering from joblessness or CORI discrimination in their lives. Most Base Members are members of Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan neighborhoods.
Benefits
- Support in your job search and CORI issues through access to BWA Worker Center and CORI Clinic
- Referrals to the Boston Staffing Alliance
- Discounted prices for BWA events, (holiday celebration, annual dinner celebration)
- Access to BWA’s newsletter and email list to stay updated and informed on community issues and events
Responsibilities
- Attend a BWA Orientation
- Sign a BWA Membership Application and Code of Conduct
- Pay annual dues $10-$25 sliding scale
- Register to vote (if eligible)
- Asked but not required to attend quarterly Base Member meetings, give support in BWA campaigns by attending rallies and events, calling/writing elected officials, volunteer in the office, represent BWA in the community as a Base Member
Active Member
Active Members volunteer their time to lead our organization’s campaigns and build unity in our community.

- voting rights for board members, committee chairs and organization wide issues
- Ability to nominate members and run for board or committee chair positions
- Access to trainings and leadership development opportunities
- Opportunity to help improve our community through important campaigns
- Access to conferences, forums and workshops both locally and nationally
- Access to holiday party, turkey drive, cook outs, annual dinner
Responsibilities
- You must first become a Base Member
- Attend monthly Membership Meeting
- Volunteer at the office, participate in BWA committees, attend a rally, event or training for minimum 3 hours each month (26 hours of service yearly)
Ally Member
Ally Members are individuals who support the mission of our grassroots organization. They may or may not be unemployed, underemployed or have a CORI.
Benefits
- Access to BWA Action Alerts relating to our important social and economic justice campaigns
- Access to BWA’s newsletter and email list to stay updated and informed on community issues and events
- Invitation and discounts for BWA events (Holiday Celebration, Annual Dinner Celebration)
- Invitation to quarterly community meetings and events
- Opportunities to intern or complete school requirements
Responsibilities
- Complete BWA Ally Member registration form
- When possible, support BWA campaigns by forwarding Action Alerts, calling/writing legislators to educate them about BWA, attend public rallies or events
- If possible, help sustain BWA by hosting house parties, creative fundraisers, recruiting Ally Members, and support the growth of the organization
- Contribute Ally Membership dues of $25 / year
